Meet The Robertsons

We are a family-owned business located in the stunning South Mountain of the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia. We strive to work in harmony with nature to bring you the best products possible.

Welcome to Robertsons Farm and Apothecary!

We are the Robertson family, Calum, Rachael, and our two boys, Hamish and Fearghas. In 2013, we left our home in Old Scotland to pursue a life of self-sufficiency on our 131-acre farm located in the breathtaking South Mountain of the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia. We started from scratch on an old hay field, and now we have built our own little paradise with stunning views of the Bay of Fundy and Blomidon Provincial Park.

Our farm produces two product lines, Robertsons Farm and Apothecary, and Barefoot Faerie Botanicals. Robertsons Farm and Apothecary focuses on dried herbs, teas, tonics, and bitters, using botanicals and herbs that we grow ourselves. Our goal with our edible products is to provide you and your family with preventative tonics and elixirs that are easy to integrate into your daily routine.

Barefoot Faerie Botanicals is our body care line, and it is primarily focused on nature and the abundant gifts it offers. We carefully source oils and butters from sources that are transparent and traceable, allowing us to work in harmony with the planet instead of against it. Our products are infused with offerings from the land to ensure that the energetic aspect of this magical process is conveyed to you as well.

Thank you for visiting our website, and we hope that you find our products as enriching and fulfilling as we do.

Have you ever had that moment...

...when you and your partner open a bottle of wine and dream about a life elsewhere? What if. Imagine. Wouldn't it be exciting?

Well, that was Calum and I in 2008. A slightly inebriated google search of land in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. We felt the desire to have a small farm and grow and raise our own food and raise our future family (no kids yet) outdoors. Well, that crossed Australia off the list for me! With practically everything from spiders to kangaroos trying to kill you, I shelved that idea pretty quick, as did the soaring land prices. New Zealand feels home to me (Rachael) as part of my family lives there. But, again sky rocketing land and housing prices against the British pound would have left us with having to both work full time and the dream of slowing down would be a distant memory.

Canada seemed like the perfect contender. (Remember we are already 2 Cab Sav's in at this point!) A four seasons country with vast amounts of land and not a huge population for their land mass. House and land prices were attractive against the GBP. If we chose the East Coast, it would be a short, direct plane ride back to visit family and friends. It was decided, Canada was our dream.

Fast forward to 2013 - One house build later, 2 kids, 3 years of immigration paperwork, 3 visits to Nova Scotia and we eventually landed in the Annapolis Valley as Permanent Residents! The land on Canaan Mountain called us, and we listened with our guts (not our wallets, as that would have been the sensible thing to do!) and purchased within a month of arriving.

To this day we still have goosebumps driving down our driveway to the view of Blomidon Provincial Park and the majestic Bay of Fundy. There was a pull to this land that we now reside on. An innate energy that told us this was our home. We reside on this land in the Unceded Territory of the Mi'kmaq people and we are immigrant settlers here. Our promise is to steward this land with the utmost respect and care for all its gifts that lie within. The soil, the water, the wildlife, the seasons, we shall endeavour to protect and nourish and care for it as if it were our own.
